DR MELANIE QUINN
B. Soc. Sci (Psych) (Hons), DPsych
I am a registered Clinical Psychologist and Psychology Board of Australia approved
Supervisor. I am passionate about supporting women throughout life’s transitions. I have
work experience in secondary and tertiary education settings, private inpatient and
outpatient units, and the not-for profit sector.
I draw on a range of evidence-based therapies. I practice from a foundation of
psychodynamic therapy, which helps individuals to explore challenges in everyday life,
complex feelings, and difficulties arising in interpersonal relationships. The therapy is
focused on the here-and-now, emotions, thoughts and experiences, the therapeutic
relationship, exploration of dream life and interpersonal patterns. The focus is less on
immediate symptom reduction, and more on building long term attachment security, a
personal sense of agency, emotional maturation, flexibility of coping styles, the tolerance
of strong emotional states, self-esteem regulation, and a capacity for self-reflection. I
incorporate interventions from eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR),
ego-state therapy, interpersonal therapy, and polyvagal informed approaches into my
work, depending on the unique of the individual.
I work alongside women to bring about a deep understanding of themselves and the
personal adaptations which may have been necessary due to their life experiences. I
make use of the therapeutic relationship to be curious how these patterns emerge in the
here-and-now. Together, we explore the barriers which may be preventing their
experience of a rich and meaningful life. It can be confronting to come to therapy, and I
prioritise slow steps to seeking safety and building the therapeutic relationship over time.
I consider it an honour and a privilege to do this work.
